JL Nehru in describing the people of India BAHARAT MATA is interesting .However, we may appreciate that the part of the Earth given the image of Bharat MATA is just a metaphor which was used for keeping India united at a time when partition movement and independence movement together  was ongoing especially after Quit India movement. 

However , in thinking collectively as Bharat mata , we can be mother like for not only all 140 crores but for all 8.25 billions in the commune of Adam AS and Hawwa AS. JL Nehru was also metaphorical in referred to 140 crores as Bharat mata. Looks like he had an inclusive vision vis a vis the Hindu Mahasabha guys. Literally, as a collective ,we can be mother like as we are connected to each other under the boundary where we travel freely. BJP generates hate campaigns for muslimeen and muslimaat which is most accursed. On the other hand ,independence is an outcome of the sacrifices of the muslimeen and muslimaat in largest numbers. 

It is clear that muslimeen and muslimaat associated with Congress through Jamaat ul Ulama e Hind wanted British to be out of India at all cost since British had not only killed Mughal successors brutally but they had murdered large number of religious leaders who had continued fighting the British post their demonstration of political ambitions.

On the other hand, Asaduddin Owaisi along with all party leaders are suffering from the ignorance of the meaning of the word Bharat in its elements.  I have explained this in a seminar paper enclosed here. In the report of the meeting with the former home minister and current defense minister ,I had shared the name of the real Bharat as the Khalifatullah, the dispenser of the human destiny at the seat of Adam AS, the first  sanatan karta, the first Bharat, the Light of Allah .

So, Bharat Mata ki jai is to me is the akin to singing jaikara for the mother of the Fatimi Khalifatullah in real sense of the word.  

Literally , we need to keep the borders intact in order to ensure protection against invasions as has been the extant practice. However, we collectively are an outcome of invasions to the part of Earth referred to as Bharat since the time Bharatvarsha came into existence.

भारत माता एक बार फिर विवादों के घेरे में

सन 2016 में आरएसएस सरसंघचालक मोहन भागवत ने कहा था कि अब समय आ गया है जब हमें हमारी नई पीढ़ी को हर महत्वपूर्ण मौके पर भारत माता की जय का नारा लगाना सिखाना होगा. इस पर असादुद्दीन ओवैसी ने कहा था कि अगर कोई उनकी गर्दन पर चाकू भी अड़ा दे तब भी वे भारत माता की जय नहीं कहेंगे. हाल (जून 2025) में केरल में इस मुद्दे पर फिर एक विवाद खड़ा हो गया. केरल के राज्यपाल राजेन्द्र अर्लेकर ने स्काउट विद्यार्थियों के लिए राजभवन में एक पुरस्कार वितरण समारोह आयोजित किया. कार्यक्रम केरल सरकार के शिक्षा विभाग के सहयोग से आयोजित किया गया था. इस कार्यक्रम में मंच की पृष्ठभूमि में भारत माता का चित्र लगा था. वह वही चित्र था जिसे आरएसएस प्रचारित करता आया है और जिसमें भारत माता भगवा वस्त्र हाथ में लिए एक हिन्दू देवी जैसी दिखती हैं.

केरल सरकार के शिक्षा मंत्री ने कार्यक्रम का बहिष्कार कर दिया. पुरस्कार विजेताओं को बधाई देने के बाद वे कार्यक्रम स्थल से चले गए. राज्यपाल ने इसका बुरा माना परंतु केरल के मुख्यमंत्री पिनयारी विजयन का तर्क था कि दरअसल राज्यपाल ने संविधान-विरोधी हरकत की थी क्योंकि भारत माता देश के संविधान का हिस्सा नहीं हैं. शिक्षा मंत्री शिवन कुट्टी, जिन्होंने कार्यक्रम का बहिष्कार किया, ने ठीक ही कहा कि, ‘‘यह सुनिश्चित करना जरूरी है कि भारतीय राष्ट्रवाद किसी एक सांस्कृतिक छवि पर आधारित न होकर हमारे संविधान में निहित समावेशिता और प्रजातंत्र के मूल्यों पर आधारित हो. राज्यपाल को यह साफ करना चाहिए कि संघ परिवार की भारत माता देश की वर्तमान सीमाओं को स्वीकार करती हैं या नहीं. भारत एक एकसार राष्ट्र नहीं है जिसे किसी एक प्रतीक या छवि के आसपास निर्मित किया गया हो. हमारे गणतंत्र का जन्म इसलिए हुआ क्योंकि हमने सोच-समझकर यह निर्णय लिया कि हम एक बहुवादी, धर्मनिरपेक्ष देश का निर्माण करेंगे जिसका ढांचा संघीय होगा. भगवा झंडा हाथों में थामे एक महिला के चित्र को यदि देशभक्ति का एकमात्र प्रतीक बताया जाएगा तो यह हमारे इतिहास से मुंह मोड़ना होगा. देशभक्ति को किसी एक सांस्कृतिक परिप्रेक्ष्य से देखना ना केवल अत्री-साधारीकरण है वरन हमारे स्वाधीनता संग्राम की समृद्ध विरासत को कमजोर करने वाला भी है.’’

राजभवन में आरएसएस से जुड़े चित्रों के प्रदर्शन पर टिप्पणी करते हुए पिनयारी विजयन ने कहा कि राज्यपाल के कार्यालय का उपयोग आरएसएस के वैचारिक एजेंडे को बढ़ावा देने के लिए नहीं किया जाना चाहिए.

किसी मानवीय आकृति को देश के प्रतीक का दर्जा देने की अवधारणा सबसे पहले 19वीं सदी के मध्य में अजीमुल्लाह खान ने प्रस्तुत की थी जो नानासाहेब पेशवा के निकट सहयोगी थे. वे नानासाहेब की पेंशन से जुड़ी किसी समस्या को सुलझाने के लिए इंग्लैंड गए थे. वहां उन्होंने देखा कि अंग्रेज भारतीयों से बेइंतेहा नफरत करते हैं. देश और उसके नागरिकों के आत्मसम्मान की खातिर उन्होंने एक नारा गढ़ा ‘‘मादरे वतन भारत की जय’’. इस नारे का इस्तेमाल काफी लंबे समय तक हुआ. बाद में अवीन्द्रनाथ चटर्जी ने एक स्त्री के चित्र को भारत माता के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया. मगर यह स्त्री किसी धर्म विशेष की प्रतीत नहीं होती थी.

स्वाधीनता संग्राम से लोगों को जोड़ने के लिए अनेक नारों का इस्तेमाल किया गया. जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने भारत माता के स्वरूप का बहुत सुंदर विवरण प्रस्तुत किया. पंडित नेहरू की पुस्तक ‘डिस्कवरी ऑफ इंडिया’ पर आधारित टीवी सीरियल ‘भारत एक खोज’, जिसे श्याम बेनेगल ने निर्देशित किया था, के एक एपीसोड में इस विषय पर चर्चा है. नेहरू एक गांव में आमसभा को संबोधित कर रहे हैं. श्रोता 'भारत माता की जय' का नारा लगाते हैं. नेहरू उनसे पूछते हैं कि भारत माता कौन हैं? उनमें से कुछ कहते हैं कि भारत माता देश के पहाड़ हैं तो कुछ जंगलों, नदियों और जमीन को भारत माता बताते हैं. नेहरू कहते हैं कि ये सब भारत माता हैं मगर इससे भी आगे बढ़कर, सामूहिक रूप से भारत की जनता भारत माता है.

बंकिम चन्द्र चटर्जी ने अपने उपन्यास 'आनंदमठ'’ में भारत माता को एक पूर्णतः हिन्दू देवी की छवि प्रदान कर दी और उसी छवि पर आधारित वंदे मातरम गीत लिखा. यह गीत पहले दो छंदों के बाद एक हिन्दू देवी का बिम्ब प्रस्तुत करता है. यही कारण है कि इस गीत के केवल दो शुरूआती छंदों को राष्ट्रगीत के रूप में स्वीकार किया गया जबकि रवीन्द्रनाथ टेगौर के बहुवादी और समावेशी जनगणमन को राष्ट्रगान का दर्जा दिया गया. चूंकि आरएसएस का राष्ट्रवाद, दरअसल, हिन्दू राष्ट्रवाद है इसलिए उसने जन-गण-मन को बदनाम करने का हर संभव प्रयास किया. यह कहा गया कि जन-गण-मन को  इंग्लैंड के सम्राट जॉर्ज पंचम की शान में लिखा गया था. आरएसएस के अनुसार इस गीत में 'अधिनायक' शब्द जॉर्ज पंचम के लिए इस्तेमाल किया गया है. टेगौर ने स्वयं यह स्पष्ट किया था कि अधिनायक शब्द से आशय उस शक्ति से है जो सदियों से हमारे देश की नियति को आकार देती आ रही है.

जैसा कि पहले बताया जा चुका है, सन 2016 में भागवत ने कहा था कि सभी युवाओं को उपयुक्त मौकों पर भारत माता की जय का नारा लगाना अपनी आदत में शुमार कर लेना चाहिए. प्रसिद्ध लेखक पुरूषोत्तम अग्रवाल द्वारा लिखित पुस्तक ‘‘कौन है भारत माता’’ का विमोचन करते हुए पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह ने एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात कही थी. उन्होंने कहा था कि एक तबका भारत माता की जय का नारा लगाता है. ऐसे कुछ लोग भी हैं जो इस नारे को सभी पर थोपना चाहते हैं. उन्होंने कहा कि राष्ट्रवाद और भारत माता की जय के नारे का दुरूपयोग भारत की भावनात्मक एवं लड़ाकू छवि निर्मित करने के लिए किया जा रहा है. देश के करोड़ों नागरिक और रहवासी इस छवि से अपने आपको नहीं जोड़ सकेंगे.

केरल के राज्यपाल राजेन्द्र अर्लेकर अपने संवैधानिक पद का इस्तेमाल आरएसएस की विचारधारा के प्रतीकों का प्रचार करने के लिए कर रहे हैं. चूंकि हमारे देश में ढेर सारी विविधताएं हैं इसलिए हमें उन्हीं प्रतीकों का इस्तेमाल करना चाहिए जिन्हें संविधानसभा ने चुना था. आरएसएस की भारत माता हाथ में भगवा झंडा लिए हुए हैं ना कि तिरंगा, जिसे हमारे संविधान ने राष्ट्रीय ध्वज के रूप में स्वीकार किया था. चूंकि आरएसएस भारतीय संविधान का विरोधी है इसलिए वह हमारे झंडे (तिरंगे) के भी खिलाफ है. आरएसएस का कहना है कि तीन की संख्या अपशकुनी होती है. उसके चिंतक कहते रहे हैं कि भगवा झंडा ही हमारे देश का राष्ट्रीय ध्वज है. आरएसएस की शाखाओं में तिरंगा नहीं फहराया जाता. आरएसएस में भगवा झंडे को गुरू माना जाता है.

जहां तक केरल के राज्यपाल द्वारा संविधान की मंशा के खिलाफ काम करने का प्रश्न है, हम सबको यह समझना होगा कि आरएसएस के प्रशिक्षित स्वयंसेवकों और प्रचारकों के लिए संघ और उसकी विचारधारा सबसे महत्वपूर्ण होती है. इमरजेंसी खत्म होने के बाद हुए आमचुनाव में जनता पार्टी को जीत हासिल हुई और उसने अपनी सरकार बनाई. आरएसएस की राजनैतिक शाखा भारतीय जनसंघ का जनता पार्टी में विलय हो गया था. जनता पार्टी के कुछ नेताओं ने कहा कि भारतीय जनसंघ के नेताओं को आरएसएस से अपने रिश्ते तोड़ लेने चाहिए. यह करने की बजाए जनसंघ ने जनता पार्टी से ही नाता तोड़ लिया और भारतीय जनता पार्टी का गठन किया. हम आरएसएस से जुड़े व्यक्तियों से यह उम्मीद कर ही नहीं सकते कि वे हिन्दू राष्ट्रवादी विचारधारा की कीमत पर संवैधानिक आचार व्यवहार को प्राथमिकता देंगे. (अंग्रेजी से रूपांतरण अमरीश हरदेनिया. लेखक आईआईटी मुंबई में पढ़ाते थे और सन 2007 के नेशनल कम्यूनल हार्मोनी एवार्ड से सम्मानित हैं)
